On arriving at the station, we noticed a large amount of broken glass on the parking area. A quick check showed no broken windows – the glass appears to have come from a number of picture frames. A strange collection of smashed, and partly burnt items was scattered around the parking area. Thanks to Harry and Martyn, half an hour of dedication cleaned up the mess.

In the meantime, a couple of Chorus techs turned up and announced they were here to install a fiber. After letting them know there was already fiber to the building, they insisted they were here to install a new one. Indeed, on opening the cable pit at the front of the building, there was an empty 12 tube fiber conduit coiled up in the damp. After cutting off the sealed end, it was apparent there was water ingress in the tubes. No problem – “We’ll blow the water out”. I hope there’s not too much water in there – the other end is 1.4km away.

So after threading a single fiber armoured conduit from the pit through the building to the top floor, next will be to blow the fiber through the tubes.

The 40m AM net was a non-event at 11:30. Apparently victim of a CME; there was no sign of a carrier from MP on either Waikato or Whanganui SDRs. By 12pm, reception was returning.
