Today we had a presentation about AREC from Steve Main – Northern Regional Manager for AREC. Steve outlined the current structure and direction of AREC and the relationships it has with a number of emergency services, as well as successful initiatives they have developed to attract people to Ham Radio. Certainly there are parallel aspects with our own proposals for disaster preparedness and given the minimal establishment requirements and wide ranging assistance available from AREC, especially in the areas of training, we should encourage members to consider joining.
