Rob ZL4ROB brought along his solar telescope for a looksee. The telescope has sufficient attenuation to allow direct observation of the sun, and magnification to enable the image of the sun to fill the viewport. A tracking head on the tripod maintains alignment – how convenient!

As an addendum to sunny activity, Dave ZL1DL demonstrated how you can find North with only a stick, a couple of stones and the Sun. No compass, GPS or chronometer required. Rather than turning out to be a simple way of finding a direction, it turned into a discussion regarding the difference between North as indicated by the sun and magnetic North, that is used by most navigation… No problem, all you need to do is remember and apply the difference…
