Not so much a sale – rather a giveaway. The garage on the west lawn is due for demolition and that means the contents have to go. A not often frequented place, apart from the attempted breakins and tagging, the garage is a veritable “Aladdin’s Cave” of potentially useful items. Sadly, the contents are due to be binned and taken away for recycling, but first we opened the door to club members present, to help themselves.

It was somewhat of a cave experience; the lights didn’t work and the tilt-a-door was bolted closed. With most of the windows blocked out, it took some time for eyes to adjust to the gloom. Perhaps it was the dark that made it difficult to see the goodies, but very little got carted away. There is still another Sunday if anyone wants to have a sift through the contents.

The subject of using the remote IC-706 for repeaters was raised. People seemed to have varied experience with the repeater split function. Dave ZL1DL and Harry ZL1BK decided to check it out. The VHF antenna had been removed for refurb ( a very long time ago… ) so a dummy load was attached to the VHF output from the IC-706. After a number of tests, it was found that both the Android and Windows Apps for RCFOrb controlled the repeater split correctly. There is an issue when the client App is started; it may not be updated with the current split set on the radio. With the indication on the App being out of sync with the actual setting on the radio, confusion could reign! The work around, is to change the repeater split on the App; the radio will then respond accordingly and the two will then be in sync. More investigation required…

Todays photo, courtesy of ZL1BK, highlights the shorter days as winter approaches; it was taken late afternoon as we were leaving for the day.
