Despite the rainy on again / off again outlook, Sunday morning appeared bright and sunny, so several East Enders took to seting up field stations for the Alpine Fault Net check-in.

Propogation was generally poor, however Auckland was at one of the favored distances and we all checked in with comparative ease.

Dave ZL1DL tried out Crawford Reserve; a small green area with about 6 carparks in Howick; just across the road from Stockade Hill. Although lower and somewhat shielded to the southwest by Stockade Hill, Crawford Reserve has car parks right up to the grass – how convenient.

Other field stations included Rob ZL4ROB operating from adjacent to the Methodist Church near Highland Park, Harry ZL1BK and Martyn ZL3CK. Rob cleaned up on the signal strength reports with an S9.

Harry ZL1BK used a longwire from the beach around the Pakuranga Rotary Walkway.

And testing guy rope combinations for poles we try sticking up in the breeze…

It’s not only things up in the air that get attention – watch the solar panels auto-folding function at play.

Martyn ZL3CK used a loaded vertical and Elecraft K2 from one of the lawns at Musick Point. Looks more like a picnic…

And now, more proof that science fiction is a predictor of the future. Can you see a commonality in these two pics?
