Harry addressed the age old question as to which of horizontal or vertical polarised antennas offered the best performance, by erecting an example of each on one of the lawns. It was monthly meeting time again. The meeting was followed by a presentation on Hydrogen, and we had a couple of visitors from Idaho.
Kevin ZL2TKH travelled up with Steve ZL1FS from Hamilton to deliver a fascinating overview on the increasing use of Hydrogen as an energy source.

Rob AH6X and YL visited today. They had turned up at MP to try POTA, unaware there was a club there. After a chat, they went out to try POTA for their last day before heading back to Idaho.
Harry’s comparison of vertical vs Horizontally polarised antennas created more questions than provided answers. While the vertical, comparatively, delivered more noise on receive, it also provided weaker signals compared with the horizontal. Adding to the confusion, a signal transmitted from Mark ZL1MRT’s location as vertically polarised was more optimally received on the horizontal antenna. So the definitive answer to the H vs V question is: maybe.
