Attending: ZL1DL, ZL1MRT, ZL1TOF, ZL3CK. After Martyn ran the 80m AM net, it was decided to try the T-98 40m AM TX, in which Graham had installed the improved sequencer. After correcting wiring for the oscillator control, we discovered there was no grid current (i.e. drive) to the final RF stage. After pondering the problem and verifying component values around the area concerned, we ( surprise, surprise ) adjourned for coffee / lunch. Afterwards, we took a punt and replaced the oscillator buffer amp tube ( 6F6 ), and were greeted with normal power output. As our stock of 6F6 tubes is a bit light, we retried the original tube before committing it to scrap, and we still had normal power out. So most likely, we had corrosion in the valve socket, which cleared on the wiping action of removing / plugging the valve. Coffee time! A couple of the exterior security lamp cages that had been cleaned of rust and zinc undercoated were given a quick topcoat, ready for installation on the next visit. A check of the water tanks showed them to be full to overflowing; so some water was drained to provide some headroom. The water diverter needs to be adjusted on next visit.
