Another great Auckland summer’s day saw around 10 turn up and the weather was just the ticket for a bit of antenna testing. Harry tested and trimmed, educated and entertained on the subject of antennas, in the shade of the trees in the carpark. One never ceases to be be amazed at Harry’s tips and tricks with antennas and we all went away a bit more knowledgeable.
Of course an antenna is only part of the story and Martyn showed what can be done with not a lot of power in a green radio – generally, not a lot. Well to be fair, not a lot today.
Nick, ZL1NL came over from Waiheke for a visit. Nick’s currency for favourable signal reports is gingernuts; so if you have the munchies, let him know how good he is getting out. Mark, ZL1MRT has doubled the QRP output of his data transmission development and Luke hit 28MHz for a few contacts Stateside. Jim ZL1TGS dropped in with a piece of equipment that might improve the performance of the 5775 repeater; Harry will investigate.
Needless to say, the usual coffee consumption and conversation took place; given the numbers we may have to start allocating time slots in the kitchen! First world problems. All in all, a very enjoyable day.
