Yes its AGM time again for the club and if that’s not fun enough on its own, the AGM was preceded by a regular monthly general meeting.

Before we got down to meetings however, there was a bit of technical time and of course coffee. Martyn brought buns, so the conversation table was fully subscribed! Rob fired up his PRC-6 on 6M and demonstrated the range capability of this amazing device from yesteryear. With an apparent “across room” QSO, there is a definite opportunity for bettering todays record. Notable, was the number of Quansheng UV-K5 style radios that seemed to lurk in peoples pockets; some sort of visual identification is going to be needed, as they all look the same! Seems quite a risk if you put one down.

Anyway, on with the show. The general meeting was processed fairly quickly, with two new members to be proposed and accepted; a warm welcome to Mark ZL4CDE and John ZL1OJ. We then moved on to the AGM where the highlight was whittling down the expansive list of nominations for the three official positions of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. After minimal discussion the incumbents were reconfirmed in their respective positions; there being no other nominations. So welcome back David ZL1DRV as Chairman, Martyn ZL3CK as Secretary and Dave ZL1DL as Treasurer. Martyn retains the museletter portfolio and Neil Zl1NZ continues as webmaster (should the PC version title be webperson, and if you have a webmaster, is the female counterpart a webmistress)? With the financial report showing the club holding a relatively neutral position, it was decided to keep the annual subscription at $40. Votes were taken on the two remits from NZART, but at this stage it is unlikely there will be a rep from Br 86 at conference.

Following on from the presentation yesterday, by Steve Main of AREC, the possibility of forming an AREC group within the Musick Point club was discussed. It was generally agreed that such would align well with the direction the club is following in improving our disaster preparedness, and would be valuable in a number of ways. Several members indicated their keenness to join AREC, although some of them are not NZART members and this may prove problematic. Rob ZL4ROB has indicated he would be available to take the group lead position if so agreed.

Kevin, ZL1KFM very generously brought cake So with formalities dispensed with, coffee and cake was a very pleasant way to finish off the day!
